Make-A-Wish Volleyball
By: Sam Capelli
On Thursday night, a boys volleyball game was played with the goal of raising money for Make-A-Wish. The two teams faced off in a best-of-five series coached by Wyatt Barton, and Greta Morgenweck. It was a night full of donations, balls to the face, and a group of guy trash talking to each other when none of them knew anything about volleyball.
Team Morgenweck pulled off the upset in a 3-1 series win. They won the first two sets and going into the third set, Noah Capelli of team Barton gave a powerful speech saying, “Eight years ago today 16 ranked UMBC defeated 1 ranked Virginia in the first round of March Madness! We can also pull off an upset!” To say team Barton was regenerated would be an understatement. They dominated the third set and had to win the next two if they wished to win the series. In a back and forth set that went into overtime, all hope seemed lost for team Barton. That’s when someone of the team paid off the refs to get a few calls their way. One would think this would lead to a winner takes all set, but that was not the case. Logan Hall stepped up like he was prime Scott Sterling and brought the boom. He won it for team Morgenweck when they needed it most, and sent the senior class out with ANOTHER second place finish. Seriously, this is insane. Second place in football, boys basketball, girls basketball, wrestling, volleyball, and now a Make-A-Wish volleyball game. On the bright side, over $1,000 was raised and that’s what really matters.
Mark my words, the senior class will have our revenge. Whether it’s another volleyball game, floor hockey, basketball, or pickleball, I promise on behalf of the senior class we will destroy the junior class before we graduate. If we don’t, I will allow Maddie Beaudrie to buzz my head and dye my hair in a cheetah print. And you can quote me on that.
-Also if anyone finds my glasses please return them to me before I buy a new pair over break 😣
