Bronc Football Home Opener

Fireworks, horses, flashing lights, confetti, and touchdowns would sum up the Cody Broncs' 28-9 home opener victory over the talented and now 1-1 Douglas Bearcats. Building upon their road win against Riverton, making our Broncs 2-0 as they head on the road this Friday to face Buffalo. The Douglas game had its highlights, with Cody turning giving up 38 points in their opening game into a promising stopping defense only giving up nine points, the ability to stretch the field with big runs, and a resilient mentality. On top of that, the Broncs kept the Beatcats to less than 50 rushing yards, a turnaround from last week.

The Broncs' offense, on the other hand, encountered some road bumps along the way, struggling to move the ball up the field at times. Despite this, a couple of long runs from quarterback Cache McFadden and a couple of big catches from Cody receivers led the Broncs out of these offensive ruts. Wide receiver coach Noah Rivera said ¨we had a lot of opportunities, and capitalized on some of them.¨ Capitalizing on the opponent's mistakes was exactly what quarterback Cache McFadden did Friday night, leading the Broncos with 253 rushing yards.

More in-depth on Friday, this team demonstrated an understanding of how to handle high-pressure situations, such as close games, and now knows how to rise to the occasion—facing a one-score game at half, and coming out in the second half to hold them to only 3 points. Coach Rivera said ¨we told the team they would come and punch us in the face,¨ and that is precisely what Douglas did, holding the Broncs to a one-score game at half. But after a bounce-back second half, the Broncs looked solid and came away with a comfortable victory. Notably, we saw a gritty team out there, ¨ as Coach Rivera put it, with a bit of a ¨scrappy side,¨ as Cache McFadden noted.

The lively crowd suggests people are excited for Bronc football to be back, with a defense showing promise of being a focal point for this team going forward, a winner's mentality that enables them to push through challenging games and prevail, as well as an ability to stretch the field with explosive plays. There is potential for the Broncs to have a successful season.
