Cody vs Douglas Soccer Recap
By: Noah Capelli
This past Tuesday both the Cody soccer teams faced Douglas. This was a big game, especially for the girls, as Douglas girls have been racking up championships this year across multiple sports. At the start of their game, Grace Hays scored quickly to give the Fillies a 1-0 lead. This was soon followed by another Fillie goal scored by Natalie Wenke. The Douglas girls then went on a run scoring three straight goals, and took that momentum into the half. When the second half kicked off, Doulgas scored again on a penalty kick, making the score 4-2. Ellie Talich added a goal for the Fillies on a corner kick, but it would be the last time the Fillies found the open net. Douglas ended up winning the game 5-3. Talich, Hays, and Wenke all scored one goal each and all had one assist.
For the boys, the action started quickly with a goal scored by Zane Balyo. The Broncs scored goal after goal, and when the horn sounded for halftime, it was already 5-0. In the second half, they added two more to their total, ending with seven. Romain Ferland finished the game with a hat trick of three goals. Senior Carter Gail pitched into the total with a goal of his own, as did Gavin Rockey, and Diego Morales. The Cody defense, led by returning all-state player Owen Petersen, certainly made life for their goalie Jackson Asay easy. Asay shut the Bearcats out to help secure the 7-0 win.
Both the Broncs and Fillies return outstanding teams for this spring and should be expected to make more runs at state championships. Their next games are Friday, April 4, vs Mountain View.
