Start of Cody Football
As the summer months come to an end, one thing is on Cody High School’s mind: football season. Last Thursday, Cody had a scripted scrimmage against Glennrock and Lander to practice positions and plays as well as to warm up. After the scrimmage, it appears the Broncs have potential after losing ten all-stars and three honorable mentions last season, including players Maddox Ball as quarterback, running back Grady McCarten, and Lineman Wyatt Barton. Filling in the quarterback hole is a toss-up between Landon Schultz and Cache McFadden. Team members say other standout players this year include junior Ben Stewart at the defensive line and tight end, and Ankor Stewart at center.
Players say the most important aspect of the team is a strong theme of brotherhood. The team shares a strong bond. When they see a teammate in the hallway, they always stop to say hi or dap each other up, even when they're not friends outside of the team. A tradition carried on this year is between the seniors and freshmen of the team. Every senior is assigned a freshman from the team to show around or take them to lunch, helping them break into a new school.

Last year, the Broncs lost to Star Valley during state football for the second time in a row. This year, Cody players believe it will be different. Senior Alex Sitz says this when prompted about the future of this season, ”I may not be a great judge because we haven’t played a real game yet, but I'm looking forward to the season. ”Alex’s optimism for the upcoming season is a common mindset throughout the team, senior Josh Saurers saying, ”I'm very excited; I can't wait for another chance to win it all.” As always, the team is in high spirits.
With the arrival of new players comes a change in the team's personality. This year, Head Coach McFadden says their strengths lie in their speed and defensive positions. McFadden said,” I'm happy with where the D and O-line are at right now. I think we have a lot of great athletes whose names aren’t known yet, but will be after this year. ” Right now, the team is focused on keeping their heads down and continuing to improve, as well as finding the new personality of the team. McFadden emphasized they are working as hard as ever to win the first and last games. They hit the gridiron on September 9th, in Riverton, facing off against the Wolverines after their 52-14 win against Powell. The Broncs' winning 55-38. Players saying starters Cache McFadden, wide receiver Porter Rau, and running back/ linebacker Kannon Grant were crucial to the team's victory. Unfortunately, Porter Rau will be out for the rest of the season due to an elbow injury during the game. This Friday, the 12th, will be Cody’s first home game against the Douglas Bearcats. Be there to support the team.
