Basketball Recap

By: Noah and Sam Capelli

The Cody basketball teams have both had a lot of success over the last week. There were sweeps for both the guys and girls vs Powell and Lander. In Powell, the Fillies jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back. They dominated the Lady Panthers 50-37. In their home opener, the Fillies demolished Lander by a score of 58-25. Grace Hays is averaging 19 points per game, and it appears as if nobody can stop her. The Fillies are now sitting at 10-3 on the year, and it looks like they are in prime position to make another deep playoff run.

For the Broncs, they also won both of their games last week. The crowd in Powell was rocking for both sides. It was the second time the teams faced each other this year, but the first it was for a conference game. In the first quarter, Grady McCarten attempted and made a deep three and didn’t take his foot off the gas for the rest of the game. McCarten finished the game with a season high 31 points, and the Broncs took the win on their rival’s home court 69-55. Maddax Ball and Jaxon Hazel also hit double digits in the game as they both scored 13 points.

Like the Fillies, the Broncs also made their home debuts vs Lander, but the game looked much different than the one in Powell. It was a low scoring, sloppy first half for both teams. Cody walked into the locker room at halftime with an 18-12 lead, and they scored just five points in the second quarter. In the second half, once again, Grady McCarten took over. He finished the game with 20 points and the Broncs won at home 50-36. McCarten, Ball, and Hazel are all averaging double digits on the year. The boys move to 9-4 on the season and appear as if they are adapting quite well to 3A. You can catch the Broncs and Fillies at home again this Friday vs Worland.
