Green
By: Amali Wijesena
Green is nature, simple and plain.
It is leaves and grass, and shines in the rain.
I adore green,
the color of life,
but it does not adore me.
It only brings strife.
For people, it means vomit and sickness,
snot that never ends.
When I become green, I weaken and pale,
or fill to the brim with disgust.
With jealousy and unkindness, I almost combust.
Oh, but for the trees and the rolling fields,
green means life.
It means that the flora and fauna will thrive.
The color of watermelon, coconut, and lime,
of cucumbers, and lettuce, and thyme.
Green means abundance,
to eat without care.
Not only that, but green is snakes and frogs that hide.
They sneak and slither,
and to spot one requires the best eye.
Green is not money or greed,
green is Gaia,
And she is the balance,
that lives peacefully beneath our feet.
