Mountain

By Cedar Jeffers

The wind blows the tall grass

Evening comes creeping in

The sun stretches the shadows over the dusty road

Time slows as the day cools off

A day filled with mending fence

Hot dry hillsides overlooking the basin

A hundred-year homestead, struggled along

Now has new water tanks and greener grass

The calf bawls as the sun sets

Pink and oranges fill the sky

Deer make their way down to the cold streams

The fire crackles as family talks

The tin roof expanded and pops

The day swellters on

A storm rolls in, thunder cracks

Fog traps you in camp

Blue morning sky wakes you

Pancakes cook on the grill

Mountain coffee warms your hand

Bacon sizzles, Birds chirp, cattle moo
