Summer Nights
By Megan Pederson
It’s calm in the evening when the crickets chirp.
Bright stars fill the clear sky, and the world is at peace.
The wind softly blows through hair while the grass dances.
Slightly more humid than when the sun was up, and cooler too.
A lingering smell of smoke after everyone went home,
but still a taste of marshmallow and chocolate on the lips.
Still, a few sparks left on the fire;
leaving time to kill until it's burnt out.
It’s the best time to think, and it’s the time to appreciate the little things in life.
