To Be Known is to Be Loved
By Amali Wijesena
To be known is to be loved.
All your quirks and habits I have seen .
All your favorite foods, I have learned to make .
I know what you want for Christmas and birthdays,
your favorite sweet.
I know the places you love and the stores you frequent.
What perfume you wear, and who it reminds you of.
I know your favorite shirt and where it's from.
I know what your eyes say when they crease,
when your mouth tilts,
and eyebrows raise.
I know these things because I love you.
Not passion or fondness, but true love,
found in years of friendship,
in countless conversations,
from hours of observation.
For true love is not found in passion,
or in fondness,
or adoration,
but in quiet.
It is found in knowing everything about you.
To be known is to be loved.
Why does nobody know these things about me?
