Overview of Mrs. McLeod’s Day

Written by Josie Schultz

To acquire a good parking spot to start her day, Andi McLeod shows up at 7:30 a.m. This remarkable woman opens the library for students to hang out and work on homework, while she focuses on shelving and other tasks that need to be done. Since she has no helpers in her first block, she uses this time to process books, make deliveries, laminate, and do any other important library activities. The quieter mornings allow Mrs. McLeod to complete the admin side of the library. During second hour, she has a dapper young man to help her: Colter Morris. He, similar to other media assistants, helps check out books to students while Mrs. McLeod focuses on other issues or tasks she has. Having these media assistants helps lighten her load and allows her to focus on keeping everything up-to-date and clean.

Moving onto lunch, McLeod keeps the library open, often spending it behind the desk, allowing students to continue to hang out and check out books. She does this so students can have a safe, quiet space to eat, read, and hang out during lunch. The library during lunch is for kids who need quiet and not chaos. Staying open also allows access to the student printer, and not to mention there are often weekly meetings held in the library during lunch. During third hour she has me as an assistant, so I typically help ensure everything is clean and check out books. This allows McLeod to help any nearby students, and it’s often with jobs and college applications. She loves being able to help and see what the students are interested in. The rest of her day is pretty mellow, helping out when needed.

McLeod is often used as a fallback if subs aren’t available or an emergency happens. She graciously watches over the students and does her best to help them with any questions they have. She often helps students with projects that require printing such as resumes and cover letters, and she is amazing at recommending a great book to anyone who asks. For teachers and certain projects, she laminates, making everything look professional and clean. Overall, Andi McLeod is one of the best librarians we could ask for and she deserves all the love and respect we can give her.
