The Golden Horseshoe: A Short Deep Dive

By Megan Pederson

What is the mysterious award heard on the morning announcements? Listening to the morning announcements may not be something you do regularly, but this award deserves more recognition than it is given. Here is a summary of the Golden Horseshoe Award and why you should congratulate the teachers who have won it.

The Golden Horseshoe is an award given from employee to employee; it is for staff, by staff. Every two weeks, this award is handed on to a new recipient. The current holder of the horseshoe chooses the next winner. Nathan Tedjeske started the prize in the 2023-2024 school year, but the award was not announced to the entire school until this year. It was only mentioned briefly in staff meetings. The Golden Horseshoe is an idea created by Jostens Company and the staff culture committee. According to Cortney Williams, the award is for bragging rights. Whoever wins this award receives the right to brag, and a huge golden horseshoe.

The award recipients from this school year are Karen Solomon, Jacey Myers, Tiffany Fry, Erin Fulmer, and Dr. Dan Cassabon. When interviewed about the award, Tiffany Fry stated, “ [The Golden Horseshoe Award] makes me feel like my hard work is being recognized.” The award creates positivity among staff and is an amazing way to encourage and uplift each other. Next time you listen to the morning announcements, keep an ear out for the newest award winner, and remember to congratulate them for all they do!
